Kailash Satyarthi, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate 2014

This is a difficult, but a very good question … For me, peace is the smile of a free child. … In my own experience, I have helped in freeing thousands of children. And each time a child is freed and the first smile of freedom appears on her face or his face – nothing is more peaceful than that. And it generates an unspeakable peace in me as well, an eternal peace. So, peace is not only the absence of war, peace in not something which is taught in the holy places by the holy people or faith leaders, peace is not something which is negotiated across the table by diplomats or politicians or leaders. Peace a state of fearlessness and freedom. When humanity is free and fearless, peace will come.
